Bible Verses for Addiction Recovery

Recovery is rarely a straight line. These verses are for the daily, repeated choice to keep going.

// the word for this moment

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

More Scripture for addiction and recovery

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 1:6 (KJV)

What this means for you

This verse doesn't promise temptation disappears — it promises a way through it, every time, even when it doesn't feel that way in the moment. Recovery is rarely won in one dramatic decision; it's won in thousands of small ones, on ordinary days no one's watching. Philippians 1:6 is for those ordinary days — the work isn't finished, but it isn't abandoned either.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, today is the day I'm fighting for, and I need Your strength for it specifically. When the way of escape opens, give me the courage to actually take it. Thank You that the good work You started in me isn't finished — and isn't given up on, even after setbacks. Walk with me through today, one choice at a time. Amen.
