Bible Verses for Burnout

Burnout isn't laziness — it's a body and soul that have given more than they had. These verses are for the empty tank.

// the word for this moment

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

More Scripture for burnout and exhaustion

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.”

Psalm 23:2-3 (KJV)

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.”

Isaiah 40:29 (KJV)

What this means for you

Matthew 11:28 isn't addressed to people who have it together — it's addressed specifically to the labouring and heavy laden, the exhausted. Rest, in Psalm 23, isn't something you force yourself to take; it's something a shepherd makes you lie down for, because you won't stop on your own. If you've got nothing left to give right now, that's exactly who this invitation is for.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, I am tired in a way that sleep alone doesn't fix. I've been pouring out for so long I'm not sure what's left in me. Make me lie down, even if I wouldn't choose to on my own. Restore what's been worn thin. Give power to this faint, tired place, because I have none left to give myself right now. Amen.
