Sudden loss doesn't give you time to prepare. These verses are for the raw, disorienting first days.
// the word for this moment
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
“Jesus wept.”
John 11:35 (KJV)“But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.”
Lamentations 3:32-33 (KJV)Psalm 46:1 names God as a very present help — the word 'very' was translated from a Hebrew word meaning abundantly, exceedingly. Not a distant help, not an eventually-available help, but an exceeding nearness specifically in trouble. Sudden loss leaves you in a landscape you didn't know you were about to enter. You don't have to find your footing before God meets you. He's already there in the disorientation.
