Bible Verses for Exhaustion in Motherhood

Motherhood is one of the most relentless callings there is. These verses are for the tired ones doing it faithfully.

// the word for this moment

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”

Isaiah 40:11 (KJV)

More Scripture for exhaustion in motherhood

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Galatians 6:9 (KJV)

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.”

Psalm 23:2-3 (KJV)

What this means for you

Isaiah 40:11 has a detail just for mothers that is easy to miss: He gently leads those that are with young. Not at the pace of the strong. Not at the pace of the flock. At the pace of the mother who is still carrying something heavy. The shepherd adjusts his whole movement to the slowest and most burdened in his care. Your exhaustion isn't a disqualification from God's nearness. It's actually a description of exactly who He gently leads.

A prayer for this moment

Lord, I am tired in a way that motherhood makes specifically — the kind of tired that doesn't end on weekends or get better with a good night's sleep. Lead me gently in this season. Restore my soul in whatever margin actually exists for that. Let the due season of reaping feel closer than it does today. And let me know that the pouring out is seen and will matter. Amen.
