Comparison is easy to do and hard to stop. These verses call you back to your own life and your own portion.
// the word for this moment
“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
Galatians 6:4 (KJV)
“But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
Psalm 73:2-3 (KJV)“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”
1 Timothy 6:6 (KJV)Galatians 6:4 makes a practical observation about comparison: it only produces false data. Your work evaluated against your calling gives you real information. Your work evaluated against someone else's life gives you nothing useful — only pride or envy, depending on the direction. Psalm 73 is refreshingly honest about how close the psalmist came to losing their footing over envy — and what brought them back was returning to God's presence, not achieving more.
