How to discern the difference between righteous and sinful anger Anger is not necessarily sinful. God is the angriest person in the whole Bible. His wrath rightfully burns against all evil. Apply the following tests to your anger. 1. Do you get angry about the right things? Righteous anger is a response to perceived evil 2. Do you express anger in the right way? While perceiving evil accurately we might still sin in our anger by expressing it the wrong way. Is it expressed primarily to punish or condemn, or is it expressed constructively working in love toward the well-being of people and to the glory of God? (Ephesians 4:26) 3. How controlled is your anger? "Anger like a good horse, must be bridled". Godly anger is under the control of God's agenda and in submission to his purposes in the world. Ungodly anger, is like a wild, unbridled horse subject to no one. 4. What motivates your anger? David Powlison writes, "The simplest question to ask about what underlies anger is, 'What do I really want?" (Ephesians 2:3) 5. What is the effect of your anger? Simply put, sinful anger perpetuates a cycle 🚲 of sin that complicates matters, while righteous anger works to confront, restore, and reconcile for the good of others. My testimony: I inherited a hot temperament and was possessed with the spirit of anger. When I used to get angry a fire would rush from my belly through my throat and I would vomit out fire 🔥. I seriously was afraid of myself. When I recommited my life to God and the power of God was upon me one week I felt a bit of God's righteous anger being on my chest and I was shocked and wondered, 'What is that?!' Never let God pour His anger upon you. IT'S NOTHING COMPARED TO THE SINFUL ANGER.
