Minced Oaths Minced oaths like "holy cow", are euphemisms used to avoid saying a sacred name of a profanity like "Holy Christ" 😳. The holy cow oath of course mocks the Hindu belief in the cow being revered as holy. Americans are of course the originators of most of these oaths. Others like "holy smoke" and this surprising one "holy Moses" are common American slangs. They've gone as far as to avoid saying sacred names like God and Jesus Christ and replaced them with 'gosh'/'golly' (to replace God and used 'jeepers creepers', 'gee whiz', 'geez, 'crikey'/'criminy' to replace saying Jesus Christ. They even didn't miss Jesus's mother in this travesty, as they replace Holy Mary with 'holy mackerel'. The most common of all is "Oh my God" or OMG and that has become universal and uttered by even reveling Christians. Was this all strategic? If you said 'yes'; you're right. This post is to remind us to avoid saying these blashemous names. Since I renewed my faith, whenever I hear these utterances my stomach would wince and even though I have been guilty of laughing at the use of OMG 😲 and have said it and it's variance "Oh my God", I know it's reprehensible. There's even the most heinous swear word now (that I cannot type here) that mixes Jesus's name with an obscenity. If this isn't the end of days, I don't know what is! May God have mercy upon us!
