Yesterday I had a get-together with my close non- believer friends. Somehow the conversation turned towards Christians and the whole issue of “forceful conversion” and luring people through money. Being an Indian, I’ve heard these things many times. Christians are often accused of giving money to poor people to convert them. The media also keeps portraying Christians in a negative way as if Christianity is some kind of threat to Hinduism(major religion in India). My friends asked me about it very genuinely. So I tried to answer everything they asked. I spoke about how a narrative is created and circulated through social media around Christians and how people are often made to see us in a particular way. But when you actually look at the ground level, there is another side to the story. Christians have been involved in and known for serving and uplifting weaker and marginalized sections of society for years. When they are found to serve others, a narrative is set they become targets of opposition and accusations. What surprised me was how naturally the whole conversation with my friends started and ended. I didn't plan to talk about my faith at all. But in that moment, I was completely into the conversation and everyone was listening so attentively. When I came back home, I just kept thinking about it. I was so in the moment that I didn't even felt the presence of Holy Spirit (you know what I mean). It just flowed. I really thank God for giving me that opportunity to speak, to witness and to stand for my faith and for my fellow Christians. I hope next time or whenever this comes up I'll share eye witness testimony where a Hindu family accepted Christ because they're delivered of demonic attacks.
